Since its inception in 1988, EGPAF has paved the way in funding research specifically aimed at the pediatric aspect of AIDS. Because of the work of Elizabeth Glaser, there is an entire community of pediatric AIDS researchers that didn't exist before. While EGPAF has devoted millions of dollars to funding research, the Foundation also has adopted a multi-pronged approach to the battle against pediatric AIDS. EGPAF has been a leader in creating national policy. They have largely contributed to landmark congressional acts focusing around issues such as stem cell research, pediatric drug testing, and the inclusion of children in HIV/AIDS vaccine trials. The Foundation has broadened its scope beyond the nationally relevant issues with the disease, providing treatment, counseling, and access to information to the international community. These international programs focus on preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV and providing antiretroviral treatment for children and adults. The innovative research, collaborative training initiatives, advocacy efforts, and rapidly-expanding international program inspired by its efforts are continuously bringing dramatic changes to the lives of children worldwide.

The purpose of Project Kindle is to enhance the overall well-being of children and youth infected with and affected by HIV and AIDS. Project Kindle's primary mechanism for achieving its purpose is through camping events held in Nebraska and California. The camps provide HIV infected/affected children and youth residing throughout the Central United States and California with a safe and accepting refuge from the challenges of living with HIV. These camps offer opportunities for young people to strengthen self-esteem through interactive participation in educational and recreational programming. Project Kindle provides supportive environments wherein children and young adults can safely explore opportunities for growth and acceptance. Project Kindle also offers an Enrichment Program designed to offer support and education both during camp and throughout the year.
